CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER – Utility

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Construction Project Manager to lead the on-site execution and delivery of solar projects from mobilization through closeout. This role requires strong leadership, technical knowledge, and organizational skills to ensure solar projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Project Planning & Coordination:
    • Lead weekly internal meetings with Site Superintendent and Foremen meant to identify materiel, personnel, tool, equipment necessary to meet project schedule.
    • Conduct regular site visits to support Project Manager’s needs for updates on progress, safety, and quality standards of executed work on site.
  • Permitting & Compliance:
    • Coordination with local, state, and federal entities to facilitate necessary inspections to confirm compliance with code and labor requirements.
  • Budget & Schedule Management:
    • Maintain construction budgets and schedules.
  • Design & Engineering Support:
    • Provide feedback on improved constructability and value engineering opportunities identified during the construction process.
    • Coordinate with Electrical Engineers, Civil Engineers, and Local Authorities to ensure all projects meet code requirements, environmental regulations, and utility interconnection standards.
  • Stakeholder Communication:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact with project stakeholders during construction, which will include the development and delivery of weekly owner meetings, weekly/biweekly project reports, change order requests, three-week look-ahead, long-term project schedules, coordination with Project Engineers, Coordination with Subcontractors, etc.
    • Provide regular project updates to the Senior Project Manager or the Director of Construction.
    • Draft and submit change orders as project scope is modified.
    • Review and approve change orders for subcontractors if the scope is modified.
  • Transition to Construction:
    • Review project kick-off documents for completeness, including: construction drawings, bill of materials, engineering submittals, Site Specific Safety Plans, Site Specific Quality Plans, budgets, and schedules.
  • Transition to Construction Completion
    • Coordinate quality control audits as the project approaches mechanical completion.
    • Coordinate site commissioning and operational testing.
  • Human Resources:
    • Author and deliver annual performance evaluations and develop SMART goals for assigned Assistant Project Managers and Superintendents
    • Author and deliver performance improvement plans for assigned Assistant Project Managers and Superintendents who are lacking in the performance of their duties.
    • Support Superintendents and Foremen in the development of timely performance evaluations and development of SMART goals for assigned personnel.
    • Support Superintendents and Foremen in developing performance improvement plans for assigned personnel.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Continually analyze SOPs for necessary updates.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Renewable Energy, or related field.

 

Preferred experience and/or training: 

  • 1-3 years of experience in solar project development, construction, or related project management.
  • Strong understanding of solar PV systems, site development, permitting processes, and utility interconnection.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Procore, Bluebeam).
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and teams across various locations.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction contracts, change orders, and budget tracking.
  • Journeyman or Master Electrician certification

 

Preferred Licenses/Certificates:

  • Drone Pilots License
  • OSHA 30

  • Lift and carry up to 30 lbs of plans, tools, or materials.
  • Extended periods working outdoors or on active job sites.

 

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Hybrid work setting with frequent on-site travel to construction locations (assume 25%-50% travel during the work week.
  • Fieldwork includes exposure to varying weather and terrain conditions, as well as active construction sites.
  • May require wearing PPE and climbing ladders or working at heights as needed.
