The role of the Post-Construction Technician is to serve as a highly mobile, hands-on technical resource responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, testing, commissioning, and documenting outstanding issues on utility-scale solar projects as they progress from Construction Complete through Mechanical Completion, Substantial Completion, and Final Completion.
The position supports Project Management teams by traveling between active and post-construction project sites to investigate and correct electrical, mechanical, civil, communications, monitoring, commissioning, equipment, and quality deficiencies. The Technician is expected to work independently for a significant portion of assigned work while recognizing when additional technical, engineering, vendor, subcontractor, or Project Management support is required.
This is an individual-contributor position and does not normally include formal responsibility for supervising Arch Electric employees or subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities
- Execute assigned post-construction work necessary to move projects efficiently from Construction Complete
- through Mechanical Completion, Substantial Completion, and Final Completion.
- Travel independently to project sites to investigate, troubleshoot, test, repair, and document outstanding project deficiencies.
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical, civil, communications, DAS/monitoring, equipment, commissioning, and general punch-list issues.
- Independently determine probable causes and execute routine corrective actions within the Technician’s level of training, qualification, experience, and authority.
- Recognize when an issue requires engineering review, manufacturer or vendor technical support, customer direction, design modification, specialized equipment, or additional qualified personnel and escalate appropriately.
- Troubleshoot and support correction of inverter, transformer, electrical distribution, communications, monitoring, racking, module, wire-management, drainage, grading, access, restoration, and other project deficiencies.
- Support equipment startup, commissioning, recommissioning, system troubleshooting, performance testing, equipment replacement, equipment resets, and correction of failed commissioning activities.
- Support post-construction electrical, communications, equipment, and performance testing as required.
- Review drawings, one-lines, schematics, equipment manuals, commissioning procedures, specifications, and other technical documentation necessary to complete assigned work.
- Work directly with equipment manufacturers and vendor technical-support personnel when necessary to troubleshoot equipment and communications problems.
- Configure or modify approved communications and equipment settings within the Technician’s training and authority.
- Document corrective work thoroughly using photographs, testing information, equipment readings, notes, commissioning records, and other supporting evidence.
- Maintain accurate and timely completion records in Procore.
- Support Project Managers in developing documentation required to close customer punch-list items.
- Provide sufficient documentation for Project Management review and formal submission to the customer.
- Support commissioning documentation, testing records, equipment startup records, and other closeout requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of unresolved conditions and communicate required follow-up actions to the responsible Project Manager.
- Identify recurring equipment, installation, design, communications, commissioning, or quality issues and communicate lessons learned to Project Management and construction leadership.
- Complete required field, safety, quality, daily, customer, testing, and closeout documentation applicable to assigned work.
- Comply with applicable Site Specific Safety Manual (SSSM), Site Specific Quality Manual (SSQM), approved drawings, specifications, commissioning requirements, and company procedures.
- Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions or practices are identified.
- Work cooperatively with Superintendents, Project Managers, other Technicians, electricians, subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and customer representatives when assigned work requires additional resources.
- Work irregular or extended hours when required to support commissioning, testing, customer access, troubleshooting, travel, or critical completion activities.

Independence and Work Assignment
The Post-Construction Technician will normally receive assignments and priorities from the Project Management teams.
The Technician is expected to perform approximately 60% of field assignments independently, although assignments will vary based on project conditions and complexity. During initial training and development, a greater percentage of work may be completed alongside the Post-Construction Superintendent, another Technician, Superintendent, electrician, or other experienced employee.
The Technician is expected to progressively develop the ability to arrive at a project site, understand the assigned deficiency, independently investigate the condition, determine the probable cause, develop an appropriate corrective approach, perform the work within their qualifications, document the results, and communicate completion or required follow-up to the Project Manager.
Performance Expectations
The primary measure of performance for the Post-Construction Technician is the employee’s effectiveness in helping Arch Electric efficiently close outstanding project issues and reduce the time required to move assigned projects through Mechanical Completion, Substantial Completion, and Final Completion. Supporting expectations include effective independent troubleshooting, high-quality corrective work, accurate diagnosis, appropriate escalation, complete and timely documentation, effective support of commissioning and post-construction testing, timely punch-list completion, effective communication with Project Management, and the ability to work productively while traveling and operating independently.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred experience and/or training:
- 3-5 years of electrical, utility-scale solar, renewable energy, commissioning, industrial construction, or related field experience preferred.
- Experience working on utility-scale photovoltaic installations preferred.
- Experience performing electrical, mechanical, civil, communications, commissioning, or quality-control troubleshooting.
- Licensed Journeyman Electrician preferred but not required.
- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting capability.
- Demonstrated ability to identify faults, determine probable causes, and execute corrective work.
- Ability to perform technical work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, one-lines, schematics, equipment manuals, technical specifications, and commissioning procedures.
- Understanding of utility-scale solar equipment and systems.
- Ability to use test equipment and field data to identify abnormal operating conditions.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to perform a broad range of corrective work rather than specializing exclusively in one discipline.
- Ability and willingness to learn new equipment, communications platforms, test procedures, and troubleshooting methods.
Required Licenses/Certificates:
- Valid Driver’s License, with a good driving record, and proof of insurance.
- OSHA certification consistent with company requirements.
- Other equipment or task-specific qualifications as required for assigned work.
Preferred Licenses/Qualifications:
- Journeyman Electrician license.
- Qualified Heavy Equipment Operator.
- Manufacturer-specific commissioning or equipment training.
Technology/Equipment:
- Proficient in Procore and Bluebeam.
- Proficient with site monitoring systems, Data Acquisition Systems (DAS), remote site-control platforms, and vendor diagnostic or commissioning software.
- Proficient with electrical and communications test equipment used to diagnose post-construction and commissioning issues.
- Working knowledge of inverter and equipment configuration tools, IP addressing, basic network configuration, Ethernet communications, Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, RS-485, serial communications, and similar equipment-specific communication protocols.
- Ability to interpret equipment alarms, event logs, performance data, trends, and system-status information to identify abnormal conditions and support effective troubleshooting.
Reporting and Work Prioritization
The Post-Construction Technician reports directly to a Senior Project Manager and will primarily support the South Project Management Team. Project Managers and Senior Project Managers will establish assignments and determine where the Technician’s time provides the greatest project benefit. The Technician may support projects outside the South team when company priorities require.
The Technician is responsible for communicating field conditions, progress, completed work, unresolved deficiencies, required resources, and recommended next steps to the responsible Project Manager. The Post-Construction Superintendent may work alongside, train, mentor, or provide technical support to the Technician but is not necessarily the Technician’s direct supervisor.
Travel Requirements
This is a high-travel position. For an Illinois-based employee, the Technician should expect to be away from home more than 50% of weekdays. Overnight travel will be routine. Assignments may change frequently based on project requirements. The employee will generally return home for weekends, although unusual project circumstances may occasionally require weekend travel or work. Travel to remote project sites throughout Arch Electric’s operating territory is required.
